Kuala Lumpur- The perfect stopover with kids

When we were choosing a stopover Kuala Lumpur was top of the list. Tickets only 40USD, Petronas towers, shopping, malay food and a chance to reunite with Mark’s uni friend after 16 years.

It was very clear that the main attraction were the markets and shopping malls. Anything that involved buying. One of the malls had a full theme park inside it with rollercoaster and all! All sorts of shops and food from all over the world I presume people will eat, drink or buy anything to avoid the heat 

Dylan tried to get us to buy him some angry birds but instead we went to the world’s largest free flight walk in aviary to see the real things. It was quite a hit except for when he was given the opportunity to have exotic birds perched all over him – he made us pay, queue and then ran off screaming leaving us covered in birds.

 

KL continues to develop and grow with a frenzy! Having left the concrete jungle behind we have reached the jungle in Cambodia.

Lost in Chiang Rai

We got lost, did many u-turns, Mark refused to ask for directions, Jonas cried and Dylan demanded we go back to the pool. At the end we found the black temple (Baan si Dum) – the creation of local artist Thawan Duchanee. Animal skins, skulls and horns with amazing wood carving. Very dark and unique.

On a lighter note we then wandered around hungry till we found the Chivit Thamada Coffee House ran by a Swedish/Thai couple. Next to the river this white colonial house was beautiful. Everything was perfect- pastries, drinks and Dalarna horses while jazz played in the background. Could have been Sweden but there was sun and heat so maybe not.

Tomorrow we will catch a plane to visit some twins

Kia ora Auckland

We nipped over to New Zealand to visit family. It’s supposed to be autumn already but it’s perfect summer weather these days. Today we went to the Wynyard quarter which had great views of the city’s skyline, restaurants and a modern park for the kids. It’s past history is very interesting too. More about the place here

Best of Victoria

Today is our last day in Melbourne. Sad to leave as we have had fantastic hosts and a very relaxed time in Victoria all in all. Now out next destination!
